Mopowered Engine Builder Challenge

SuperFlow hosted the inaugural Mopowered Engine Builder Challenge at their facility in Colorado Springs, CO with great success.  Mopar Performance chose SuperFlow to host the two-day event in July with their sophisticated SF-902 Engine Dynamometers in soundproof climate-controlled dyno cells.  "The event was a huge success," said Harold Bettes, Applications Engineer at SuperFlow.  "We had several top-notch engine builders making some serious horsepower - all built from the ground up using Mopar's highest quality parts," Bettes added "We were very impressed with the teams, they were chosen for this competition because they are some of the best engine builders and extremely dedicated in their craft, and it showed."

Mopar's Jon Clark agrees on the event's success and was impressed by the competitors engines, "The premise of this competition is to reward the most powerful, yet 'streetable' engine that anyone could drive.  The teams not only met the requirements but surpassed our expectations - setting the standard for all future competitions," he said.

The winner was chosen based on an Index that considered average power and torque, idle speed and idle vacuum, and retail cost of the parts that went into the engine.  Competitors were allowed a 30-minute tuning phase to tune the engine for Colorado Springs' 6,100 ft. elevation, and the associated lack of station pressure (actual barometric pressure).  Uncorrected power measurements at this elevation are usually 30% less than equivalent tests run at sea level.

R&S Racing of Albert Lea, MN took the $10,000 winning prize with a 716 hp engine built by father and son team Tom and Joel Hestness.  Tom's wife Lynn provided countless hours of support, especially during a trying time a week before the competition when Tom was ready to throw in the towel and back out of the competition.  She convinced him to continue with the competition and proudly stood by his side when he accepted the winner's check at the Mopar Big Block Street Party in Golden, Colorado.

The final results of the challenge are as follows:
